Sliding doors are often used in houses, thanks to how easy it is to install and its second role as a large window to let the sunlight in. Against misconceptions, sliding doors are actually quite affordable.

However, there may come a time when you start to have difficulty in closing and opening your sliding doors. They may look pretty, but proper maintenance should be given constantly. More often than not, problems with sliding doors are often due to the door track. The sliding door track enables the panel to be opened and closed, and is an important area of the sliding door.

Problems with sliding door tracks may be due to constant usage or dirt stuck on it, and these problems are easily fixed by simple maintenance given regularly. Vacuum clean the door track once in a while to get rid of the dirt, debris, and if you have pets, animal hair stuck in it. You can also use a small brush with long bristles to clean the narrow parts of the track.

Once a month, apply a little lubricant to the track, but not too much as lubrication may attract even more debris. Lubrication helps the wheels on the panel run on the rail with less friction. Use a dry-film lubricant and avoid using improper ones such as penetrating oil as it may damage the wheels. You can use a waterless silicone spray to reduce the chance of the wheels rusting. Silicone is a great lubricant as it attracts neither dust nor stain.

If the sliding door track is damaged, do necessary repairs. You may hire a paid professional to do it, but it is much better to save that money as repairing a sliding door is not a difficult task. Just get a hammer, a screwdriver and a few screws if the original ones are broken. The process probably won’t take up too long, so spare a little time to ensure your sliding doors work well and safely. Keeping your sliding door track clean is worth the little time needed in maintaining it, and each clean will make them as good as new.
